Patients can benefit greatly from dental insurance. Even the best dental insurance, however, will not cover everything. Some treatments are mostly covered, while others are not. Knowing what your specific plan covers is critical for avoiding unpleasant surprises when paying for necessary dental care. Although each provider and plan is unique, most dental insurance plans adhere to a basic 100-80-50 structure:

  1. Preventive Care (100%) - routine cleanings and exams twice a year
  2. Basic treatments (80%) - dental fillings, root canals, dental extractions
  3. Major procedures (50%) include dental bridges, crowns, and dentures.

Orthodontics are also covered by some providers, such as Delta Dental Insurance. Dental sedation and cosmetic dentistry are not covered procedures. Dental insurance that covers implants is uncommon, though some comprehensive plans may cover a portion of the cost of the crown. Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plans provide the most extensive network of dental offices, allowing patients greater flexibility. Even if we are not in your plan's network, you can still receive some coverage for your necessary dental work. Furthermore, you are not required to designate a primary care provider. This allows you to obtain the necessary dental work without a referral, whether you require specialist treatment or emergency care while traveling.

PPO plans are among the most popular dental plans, accounting for 80% of all dental insurance plans. Among the most popular are UnitedHealthcare, Delta Dental, Ameritas, Humana, and Cigna Dental Insurance. If you need to find the best plan for you, consider their specific treatment coverage, monthly premiums, annual limits, and out-of-pocket maximum. You should also look at the plan’s other features, such as deductibles and copays, to find the perfect compromise between full coverage and affordability. For a headstart on where to look, some of the best dental insurance providers are Cigna, Renaissance Dental, Humana, Delta Dental, and UnitedHealthcare.

  • Don’t have dental insurance? No problem! Our dental office also offers alternative financing options, like Care Credit Dental and financing, to help you cover all of your bases. These allow you to afford all of your dental care—including treatments not covered by insurance—in small, manageable installments. Take the stress out of paying for your dental treatments.

  • Yes. At Nu Dentistry, we accept all PPO plans, from Delta Dental and Cigna to Aetna and Humana. This allows us to give our patients a great opportunity to afford the excellent dental care they need and deserve.   • Compared to other types of dental insurance, like HMO plans, PPO insurance offers greater freedom to ensure you always have access to dental care when you need it. HMO plans may be generally lower cost due to there being no deductibles and fewer offices in these networks. However, with PPO plans, you not only have a broader network available, but you don’t need a referral to see a specialist or receive emergency treatment while on vacation. Plus, if those dentists aren’t in your provider’s specific network, you can still receive some level of coverage.
